The way we work

Rio Tinto Energy America's (RTEA) parent company, Rio Tinto, published The way we work to describe our statement of ethical business practices. RTEA adopted this statement as a fundamental set of principles that govern our corporate policies and procedures and all of our business activities. These concepts include good business sense, openness and accountability, and the various corporate policies that help us apply common values and standards wherever we operate.

Rio Tinto Energy America strives to take a disciplined and integrated approach to the economic, social and environmental aspects of all our activities. We operate in an accountable and transparent way, keeping in mind the interests of RTEA shareholders, employees, contractors, host communities and customers. For example, we inform principal contractors of Rio Tinto’s principles and policies and work with them, where appropriate, to support efforts to adopt policies consistent with our own. We concentrate heavily on business integrity, corporate governance, and internal controls and reporting procedures. We also work towards understanding and interacting constructively with a number of interested stakeholders, including, local communities, governments, non-government organizations, and others in the private and public sectors.
