Sustainable Development

Rio Tinto Energy America (RTEA) supports the global initiative for sustainable development, which is defined as, “meeting the needs of the present generation without undermining the capacity of future generations to meet their needs.” RTEA’s success and its ability to incorporate sustainable development into everyday business, means the company must strive continuously to balance economic, social, environmental and good management practices in all parts of its operation. RTEA’s goal is to maintain its “license to operate,” and create long term value from its assets by being the energy fuel supplier of choice, improving the contribution its products make to society, increasing customer value, reducing the impacts of supply and use, developing and maintaining relationships with host communities and governments, and being the employer of choice to its workforce. Each year RTEA sets program and goal objectives for its Sustainable Development Program.

Rio Tinto Energy America continuously strives to balance the safe and responsible development of mineral resources with meeting the nation’s growing energy needs. The company also works to support the economic and social needs of its local communities. Our bottom line goal - provide for today, protect for tomorrow.

Provide for Today, Protect for Tomorrow
