Reclamation ProcessRio Tinto Energy America (RTEA) takes great care in reclaiming the land back to its original state. After mining is complete, topsoil and dirt are replaced and contoured to match the preexisting landscape. The soil is seeded with native plants providing diverse vegetation for livestock or wildlife grazing. Reclamation sites are monitored and maintained until plant growth regains its natural state. In addition to agriculture, land around RTEA properties serves as habitat for countless wildlife species. The company works to co-exist with wildlife before, during and after the mining process and pursues numerous wildlife initiatives, such as the prairie dog relocation at Antelope Mine and the creation of winter habitat for elk at Jacobs Ranch Mine. |
